A figure from Greek mythology, Cerberus is the dreadful
offspring of monsters Typhon and Echidna. Cerberus was originally
portrayed as having fifty heads, but eventually pictured with three heads
and sometimes the tail of a serpent. He is a watchdog of the underworld,
Hades, stopping anyone who would try and return to the world of the living.
Cerberus has two siblings: the Hydra and the Chimaera. Similar to the
gorgons, Cerberus is so hideous that anyone who looked at him would turn
to stone.
